Our selection process begins with genetics. Every donor cow and herd sire is chosen for traits that strengthen the Red Brahman breed—structural soundness, fertility, temperament, and balanced EPDs. We then apply advanced reproductive methods like IVF and embryo transfer to multiply our best genetics; while also raising cattle in real-world ranch conditions to ensure they perform in both the show ring and the pasture.

The story of the Bryant–Cardenas Red Brahmans brand begins in 1982, more than forty years ago. At that time, the brand was created around a simple but powerful idea: the letter B for Bryant, with two C-shaped figures on the sides. These Cs represented the long, distinctive ears of Brahman cattle. Together, they formed the first official mark of Bryant Red Brahmans, symbolizing both family heritage and the cattle breed itself.

Originally, the brand’s meaning was straightforward—Bryant for the family name, and the Cs as a nod to the breed’s long ears. It represented pride in cattle breeding, quality genetics, and the unique character of Red Brahmans.

But over time, the brand gained a deeper significance. Years later, Kevin Bryant’s two godsons were born—twin boys with the last name Cardenas. By coincidence, the original brand design already featured two Cs, and they now perfectly reflected the Cardenas twins. The brand was reborn as Bryant–Cardenas Red Brahmans, honoring both the original vision and a new generation.

Because it is more than just a cattle brand—it is a legacy symbol. It began as a mark of quality for Brahman cattle, and it has become a family emblem representing tradition, continuity, and trust. Today, the Bryant–Cardenas Red Brahmans brand is recognized not only for its cattle excellence but also for the story of how family heritage and the future came together in one design.

CSS stands for Certified Semen Services, a quality assurance program used by the cattle industry. When semen is described as CSS-qualified, it generally means it was collected, processed, labeled, and stored at a semen collection center that participates in CSS standards and auditing procedures.

Why it matters: CSS participation helps ensure semen handling follows consistent, documented procedures that support quality control and traceability.

CSS, in the semen-export context, usually means Certified Semen Services.

What it implies in practice:

  • The semen is collected/processed at a CSS (CSS) certified collection center.

  • The center follows standardized health testing, identification, processing, and recordkeeping protocols that importing countries commonly require.

  • It’s basically the “this semen came from a facility with internationally recognized controls” stamp that helps with export eligibility (often alongside country-specific import permits and health certificates).

Important nuance (because humans love confusion):

  • Some people say “CSS semen” when they really mean “CSS-qualified / export-qualified semen.”

  • Export still depends on the destination country’s requirements (Mexico, for example, can have specific rules beyond CSS).

If you tell me the destination country (Mexico vs elsewhere) and whether it’s bovine semen, I’ll list the exact typical document chain (export health certificate, permits, lab tests, quarantine rules) without the marketing fluff.

“CSS” in semen-export talk is almost always a typo for CSS = Certified Semen Services.

What CSS means

  • CSS is a certification/audit program for U.S. AI (semen collection) centers: disease surveillance/testing, quarantine/isolation, sanitation, traceability, and processing controls so semen isn’t a disease vehicle. (National Association of Animal Breeders)

  • Importing countries often accept (or explicitly require) semen to come from a semen collection center that meets CSS minimum requirements or an equivalent (often OIE-based) standard, because it simplifies the health attestations on the export certificate. (National Association of Animal Breeders)

How that applies to your listed countries

Mexico

Mexico’s USDA/APHIS bovine semen certificate allows the AI center to qualify as “free of” key diseases either by 6-month freedom + negative tests, or by being free based on the CSS protocol. (APHIS)

Colombia

Colombia’s import requirements state donors must be in a semen collection center that complies with CSS minimum requirements (or equivalent) and that required testing is per CSS requirements. (APHIS)

Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s import requirements likewise state donors must be in a semen collection center that complies with CSS minimum requirements (or equivalent), with donor testing in accordance with CSS requirements. (APHIS)

Thailand

Thailand’s requirements say the semen production center must meet OIE Terrestrial Code and/or CSS (or equivalent), and semen must be collected/processed/stored under those standards.

Guatemala

Guatemala’s protocol explicitly references CSS requirements or equivalent, states handling/processing must follow CSS/OIE or equivalent, and even has separate pathways for CSS-participant bulls vs non-participants. It also notes CSS inspection/approval under an MOU with USDA APHIS. (APHIS)
Guatemala also requires the importer to obtain prior authorization from MAGA (the protocol states to request permission at least 30 days before arrival). (APHIS)

Panama

The APHIS Panama bovine semen health certificate template is focused on identification and shipment details and does not, on its face, hinge on the word “CSS” the way several other countries’ protocols do. (APHIS)
In practice, Panama’s import permit/conditions (outside the face of the certificate) can still impose center/testing requirements, so CSS still helps because it’s the standard import authorities commonly accept as “equivalent disease-control system.” (National Association of Animal Breeders)
